We promote basic researches on the volcanic fluids and gases by studying the active volcanoes using geochemical and geophysical methods. We also develop these methods toward prediction of volcanic eruptions, which will lead to mitigation of volcanic hazard as well as utilization of geothermal resources. As one of the joint-use facilities of Tokyo Institute of Technology, we provide students with basic research opportunities for volcanic observation.
